FAQ
Can you give me medical advice?
Definitely not! I am an herbalist and can give you advice on the benefits that plants provide to most people, but I am not a doctor and do not know your specific medical history. You should always consult with your healthcare provider if you have any questions or concerns about contraindicated ingredients or any life-compromising ailment.
I am not a licensed medical professional. The information provided in my consultations is intended to support your overall health and wellness and is not intended to replace medical advice or treatment. Product information has not been reviewed by the FDA.
What is a tincture?
Tincture a medicine made by dissolving a drug in alcohol. In our case, the drug is nature’s medicine (aka plants) and the alcohol is vodka. Typically, I extract my herbs in an 80:20 mixture of plain vodka and water. For more delicate herbs, I may use a little more water, while for a root-heavy tincture, I may use more vodka.
I’ve never taken a tincture, how do I do it?
Easy! Because our tinctures are extracted using alcohol, it is best to taken them in water (or your beverage of choice). If you have never taken a particular tincture before, I always recommend that you start with just a few drops at a time, and then work your way up to the dose that works best for you. Use the bottle’s dropper to put your desired amount of tincture into some water or beverage of choice.
Are tinctures safe for all ages? What about Glycerol?
A dropper of tincture in a glass of water is similar to a spoonful of cough medicine. If taken in moderation, the alcohol effect should be 0. Please use whatever precautions are necessary pertaining to your personal health and wellness. Consult a physician if you have any concerns.
Also called glycerin, glycerol is a sugar “alcohol”. It is a colorless, odorless, viscous, sweet-tasting, low toxicity, and water-soluble solution. While some herbalists may choose to make tincture with glycerol, we find it considerably less effective than alcohol at extracting most herbs’ medicinal properties.
Where is your farm located?
Belen, New Mexico – roughly 40 minutes south of Albuquerque and right along the Rio Grande.
Where do your ingredients come from?
As much as possible, our ingredients are grown and processed right on the farm. If there’s an herb we don’t grow, or an item we can’t produce (such as mango or shea butter), then I do my best to either ethically forage the item or buy from a trusted, sustainable source.
Why is the shipping cost so high?
As a very small business, we do not benefit from the shipping discounts that a larger seller or chain store might. To ensure that our all-natural products arrive to you in a timely manner, we use 2-3 day shipping, which starts at $11. We choose this shipping rate to avoid any spoilage or accidents that a longer shipping process (with boxes sitting in potentially very hot or very cold environments) might cause.
Since we lose at least $1 in shipping fees (we charge $10, but pay $11) every time we ship, we also employ a $15 order minimum.
Are your products sold in stores?
Yes! We work with a few lovely shops, which each carry a unique selection of Black Rabbit products. Please check our Stockists page for the most recent list of shops.
